Camillus, N.Y. — Several dozen shoppers were ready and waiting this morning when Costco’s store at Township 5 opened its doors for the first time.
It’s the first location in Upstate New York for the chain and the first tenant at Township 5 to open.
The 148,000-square-foot store has a gas station, tire center, pharmacy, optical department, hearing aids, photo center and electronics department, in addition to aisles upon aisles of bulk groceries and other products. The location also has a produce department, deli with rotisserie chicken, bakery, snack bar and meat department.
The store has about 260 employees, including about 60 seasonal employees. The Camillus location is the 665th Costco worldwide.
And remember: Costco is a warehouse club. Members only.
You can go inside the store and take a look around without a membership, but if you want to shop or buy anything, you’ll need to sign up. There are no day passes.
Annual memberships start at $55 and they’re fully refundable. If you decide you want a refund on day 364, Costco will give it to you, said Skip Leonhard, general manager of the Camillus store.
Township 5 is located between Bennett and Hinsdale roads off Route 5.
